How Transport Moves the World

Transport and its variations are responsible for the movement of both people and goods from one point to another. Some of the different modes commonly used today are air, rail, water, road, and pipeline. The entire field of transport can be divided into vehicles, infrastructure, and operations.

The vehicles involved in transport include various types such as bicycles, automobiles, trains, buses, trucks, and aircraft. The infrastructure, meanwhile, is made up of the fixed installations that are important for transport like railways, roads, waterways, airways, and terminals such as bus stations, railways stations, refuelling depots, airports, and seaports. These terminals can be used for the interchange of cargo and passengers, as well as for maintenance of the vehicles. On the other hand, operations are concerned with the way that the vehicles are used. There are procedures set just for this purpose and some of them are policies, financing, and legalities.

In the transport industry, the operations as well as the ownership of the infrastructure can be either private or public. Passenger transport, for example, can be public, where operators provide transport services and schedules for a large group of people, or it can be private, where individuals own and operate personal vehicles. Transport plays a vital role in encouraging economic growth in a country and globalisation in the whole world, so most governments place a priority in developing their infrastructure. This, in turn, leads to more people getting into business since they would have a larger market that can make use of the goods they manufacture or the services they offer.
