Preparing Home Appliance for Transport

In some point of your life, there will come a time that you will have to move from one place to another. As you prepare to leave, you need to secure that all your stuff and valuables are properly packed. And among those items that you must carefully pack and prepare for the removal guys to pick up are your household appliances.

Unlike your clothes, books and furniture, major electronic appliances such as refrigerator, washing machine, cooker, and dishwasher units are relatively sensitive to bumps and load stress. Hence, you must observe extra precaution when packing them. The following are few tips, which you might like to consider when preparing your appliance for transport.

Read the manual. We suggest that you consult the owner's manual, which was included with each appliance when it was purchased, for a guide. Or you can also contact the appliance dealer for specific move instructions. This you must do regardless you prepare the appliances on your own or you have a professional to do the packing. Moving companies will not claim any financial responsibility for any damage to your stuff, especially if the fault is on your part.

Prepare the appliances for packing. Several hours before packing, keep the appliances dry and clean. The refrigerator must be unplugged and defrosted for about 24 hours prior the move, and all the perishables must be properly disposed. The stove, on the other hand, must be cleaned inside out, with the gas line carefully disconnected and secured. While the dishwasher unit and washing machine must be emptied and dried, with their removal parts carefully removed and packed separately.
